Land becomes contaminated for many reasons but old waste disposal sites and industrial processes are the main sources. HDPE curtain walls are used to isolate such polluted areas. The HDPE curtain wall is installed vertically into the ground around the site down to a natural impermeable layer such as clay or bedrock to prevent lateral movement of leachate or gas from the contaminated area. Trenches up to 50m deep can be excavated and stabilised with bentonite to prevent collapse. The HDPE panels are then lowered into position using special handling equipment and a panel interlocking system ensures that a total seal is achieved.
